What do we mean by moderate beer?

By moderate or average beer we mean beer that has an alcohol content that is comparable to a lager. Usually this is around 5%. Any beer within this region of ABV is called a moderate beer. However, they are usually somewhat lighter (in terms of colour) beer styles, such as IPAs, pale ales and weizen beers. So the flavours can go in any direction: from hoppy and fruity to bitter, sour and yeasty. A big advantage of moderate beers is that you can predict in advance what a certain amount of alcohol will do to you. You should be able to enjoy a few of these one after another, but do still keep your wits about you!
