Discover the taste of hazy beer
How beer becomes hazy is somewhat of a technical story. In short, it is due to the proteins from the malt coming into contact with the polyphenols that are found within our hops. So the more proteins there are from our malt and the greater the amount of hops, the cloudier the beer. A good example of this is the New England IPA, in which protein-rich cereals such as oats and wheat are combined with enormous amounts of (dry) hops. Another famous example is weizen beer, which is also brewed with wheat. As hazy beers are unfiltered, the flavours of these beers are often richer and more complex. However, this also means they have a shorter shelf life and must be enjoyed fresh. This certainly applies to hoppy beers! We hope we’ve cleared up the mystery of hazy beers just a little bit.
